How the Stirring Spoon Came to Be...
Life has presented me with 2 gifts. My first gift was the opportunity to be the Director of a local food pantry. My work at the food pantry is so rewarding that it feels selfish. The second gift was the chance to pursue my personal passion professionally – food.
So it turns out that my purpose in life is to feed people. I started The Stirring Spoon because I know the balancing act that most of us perform on a daily basis. My sauces help the home cook tilt the balance of time in their favor with a convenient means of taking an ordinary meal to extraordinary in a minimal amount of time.
As the oldest of 6 children, I grew up in a household with a full time working mother who did not find her joy in cooking. As latchkey kids, we had to call Mom at work everyday after we got home from school. Having to feed her family every night, she would instruct me to peel potatoes or do some other chore to get dinner started. This handling of food awakened a passion in me! Thank you Mom!
There was no cookbook in our house and so I began to teach myself how to cook by reading recipes off of the backs of pasta boxes, soup cans…where ever I could find them (these were the days before the Internet). When I was able to drive I took over the grocery shopping as well. While shopping at the local market one Saturday I came upon the cook book that took me to the next level in developing my cooking skills. As soon as I got home, I devoured the book. In it were the instructions on how to handle fresh produce and full of recipes with detailed instructions on different methods of preparation and cooking. As tattered as it is, I still have that book. In the years since, I have added many cookbooks to my collection.
I hope my sauces make your life a little easier, tastier and healthier.
Enjoy!

What We Support
We’ve all heard the quote that ‘no man is an island,’ and neither is any organization or business. When we join hands with our neighbors, we each become stronger. At The Stirring Spoon we support local organizations whose focus is making our communities stronger. The RI Food Bank is near and dear to my heart. I have been working with them for over 7 years and they continue to improve the quality and variety of the food they distribute. Maureen at Natural Awakenings RI brings us a fabulous magazine about living healthier and greener. RI Farm Fresh is doing a remarkable job in promoting food grown and produced locally and the Lt. Governor’s Buy Local RI initiative is helping local consumers find local products. Click on the links below to view their websites.
